Photographer Cary Hazlegrove captures the unique beauty and way of life on the island of Nantucket, south of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, in this astonishing book.

Cary Hazlegrove moved to Nantucket, in the spring of 1978, and the small picturesque island has been central to her work ever since.   She lives with her husband and daughter in the village of Siasconset.

It is easy to see why the book has received such wide acclaim; USA Book News awarding Nantucket the “Best Books 2010” Award in the Travel: Pictorial category.

Divided into the four seasons, Hazlegrove guides us through a year on the island with astonishing photographs that depict the diversity of the seasons and the elements and the day-to-day life of the inhabitants and summer tourists.

It is impossible to select a favorite image, there are simply too many.   If you have been to Nantucket, this book will instantly transport you back and if you have never been you will want to go.

The book is further enhanced by the occasional quote from residents that accompany some of the photographs, such as this one by Mary H. Mimi” Beman, a retired bookseller of forty years.

“Christmas is beautiful.   The glistening of the cobblestones.   The imagery - the lights, the trees, the cobbles, the bricks - everything glows.”

The collection of photos shown here are just a small sample of the wide array of photographs displayed in astounding detail in Nantucket.

You can find out more information on Hazlegrove at her website and Nantucket (ISBN: 978 1 59652 566 5, $39.95) can be found at all good retailers including Amazon.

Highly recommended.
