The Mayflower Inn & Spa

Hotel Review - Washington, Connecticut

By Mark B. Oliver | September 05, 2012

For a luxurious getaway right here in New England, the Mayflower Inn & Spa is hard to beat.

The Mayflower Inn & Spa is located in Washington, Connecticut less than two hours from New York City and three hours from Boston.   This country hotel has been awarded Five Star, Five Diamond, Relais and Chateaux designations and it’s easy to see why.

Accommodations

One of the Thirty Individually Decorated bedrooms

The Mayflower has 30 individually decorated guest rooms in four charming buildings - the Mayflower House, the Speedwell cottage, the Standish cottage and the Allerton cottage.   With prices ranging from $750 to $1,500 per room per night, the hotel is certainly not cheap, but the stress free tranquil setting is perfect for that special occasion.

It’s easy to relax at the Mayflower and every creature comfort is provided.   The four-poster canopied beds are heavenly with deep, extremely comfortable feather topped mattresses and thick luxurious duvets and plump over-sized pillows.

The rooms are adorned with 18th and 19th century art, antique rugs, and the marble bathrooms are exquisite.

All bedrooms are equipped with state-of-the-art telephones, cable television, DVD players and flat screen televisions.

The Mayflower Spa

This high-end spa is also open to non-residents, and has been designed to refresh and renew patrons.   The spa concierge helps each guest plan the ultimate personalized spa experience that include such delights as facials, massage, ‘scrubs, rubs and soaks’, a hair salon, yoga, weight training, pool activities...   The list goes on and on.

The Grounds

The Spectacular Grounds

Seasonal outdoor activities and challenges abound on the 58 acre estate and the nature trails within the stunning Steep Rock Reserve which is a very short drive, or quick jog, away.

Classes and activities range from scenic hikes and cross-country skiing to private tuition for tennis, and fly fishing.   Kayaking the nearby waterways is extremely popular and a terrific way to observe the varied abundant wildlife.

Dining

The restaurant offers classic contemporary cuisine in the main dining room, and is also open to non-residents.   It’s hard to think of sufficient superlatives to describe the dining experience.   Every dish was heavenly and the expansive wine list will suit every palette.   Exceptional.

During the summer months, enjoy al fresco dining on the patio overlooking the Shakespeare garden or for a more relaxed experience try the casual country fare in the cozy Tap Room.
