The Lebanon Health Food Store

While this shop is only a few miles from the Lebanon Food Coop with its extensive natural foods and prepared foods departments, the Health Food Store has been holding its own since 1996 and is a gem in downtown Lebanon.   The staff will welcome you and are happy to do the cooking.

The Health Food Store’s Lunch-all-Day Café offers ten unique sandwich combinations for every palette, referred to as “The Unusuals.”

Beyond their menu, the staff is happy to customize to your taste and cook especially for you, as you make selections from “The Usuals” menu to build your own.

I had lunch with my friend Beth who is almost five months pregnant.   Her cravings led her to the turkey BLT, but turkey didn’t seem right.   How about tuna fish? The staff was happy to oblige.

Most of the sandwiches are made with meats and cheeses plus vegetables on a variety of fresh breads.

The two vegetarian options are tasty and healthy – hummus, and a homemade black bean burger.

The staff is very accommodating and will replace a meat with extra vegetables to make any sandwich meat free.

They cater to all taste preferences and special diets with a diverse menu, store-made gluten-free baked goods, soups, and daily special entrees.   And Friday is pizza day!

As if the opportunity to have a spectacular sandwich wasn’t enough, the Health Food Store also has the best selection of home brewing and winemaking supplies in the Upper Valley.   When you can’t grow your own hops, you can buy fresh, locally grown hops here.
