You don’t have to be a chocoholic to fall in love with the guilty pleasures at Chocolee.

Lee Napoli has been making pastries for over 30 years.   She started out as the pastry chef at Icarus restaurant in Boston and since then has consulted, taught and won many awards including the James Beard Award.   She opened Chocolee Chocolates two years ago on Pembroke Street and recently moved to 23 Dartmouth Street in Boston’s South End.

Napoli makes the chocolates herself every evening.   She chooses the flavors based on customer demand and wherever her creative mood takes her each day.   On the weekends, she serves fresh chocolate croissants, chocolate beignets and éclairs that are dipped right in front of you.

The chocolate truffles are mostly made from dark chocolate and each is bursting with flavor from fresh lime to salty caramel.   The intensity of the flavors of some truffles actually came about from returning customers’ requests.

Two of my favorites are the Dark Chocolate with Salted Caramel Truffle, which is indeed salty and the Spicy Poblano Pepper truffle, which will leave your mouth aflame.   Truffles with more delicate aromatic flavors include the Dark Chocolate with White Chocolate Ganache and the Hazelnut Gianduja.   Both will melt in your mouth and elevate your mood.

The truffles are $2.50 each and Chocolee is a decadent delight not to be missed.
