The pictorial past of the Constitution State is explored in this fascinating book.

It was Mark Twain who said “Action speaks louder than words” but he could also have been talking about photographs.

Historian Sam L. Rothman has gathered an astonishing collection of photographs detailing the history of Connecticut.   He has unearthed long since forgotten gems from the archives of the Library of Congress, the University of Connecticut, and the Connecticut State Library to name just a few.

The images are extremely varied, from the romance of a steam powered locomotive, to everyday folk at a local market.   Each image draws you in, and repeated viewings are rewarded with hitherto unseen detail.   And it is these details, such as the clothing worn as people go about their everyday business, that is the biggest treat of all.

The images are clear and crisp and the book enthralling.   I would suggest you follow Mark Twain’s advice and see for yourself.
