Beatriz Oliveira is what some would call an amateur photographer, yet her photos prove that she is anything but.

Oliveira was born and raised in Portugal before moving to Massachusetts, with her family, in the eighties.   She has lived in and around New Bedford ever since and has developed a deep love and appreciation for the area, which she has captured magnificently in her Postcards from New Bedford project.

What led to this unique perspective of the city?

“The project emerged from a personal desire to share with others the beauty that I see in this artful place.   I wasn’t sure where I was going with it... I’m still unsure, but I am enjoying the journey that it’s taking me on,” she explains.

The response so far has been overwhelming positive, which Oliveira finds extremely gratifying.

“By nature, I tend to let things develop organically. When I feel a strong pull in a certain direction I go with it.   I suppose that’s how I got into photography in the first place. I needed a creative outlet. I’ve always enjoy photography – so here I am, doing this. It feels exciting!”

Oliveira’s photographs of New Bedford speak for themselves - enjoy.
